Police call for witnesses to Golden Beach fatal crash

THE OFFICER in charge of investigating the traffic incident that claimed the life of an elderly man has appealed to witnesses to come forward.

Officer in charge of the Nambour Forensic Crash Unit sergeant Sherryn Clump said she only had one witness statement from someone who saw the accident on the afternoon of Thursday, March 17.

A 92-year-old man died in Nambour Hospital on Friday from injuries sustained after he and a 96-year-old man were struck by a utility while crossing Landsborough Pde in Golden Beach.

The utility, driven by a 48-year-old man, was reversing from a car park on the side of the road.

"Something that's got to be drawn out here is that where the gentlemen were crossing the road is not a designated crossing," she said.

"While the structure of the road features there gives an impression of a pedestrian crossing, it isn't.

"The investigation will take this into account as well."

Sgt Clump said the driver was quite stressed about the situation.

"The reality of this one is that the crash itself was very minor. (The 92-year-old) succumbed to his injuries because of his age."

Sgt Clump said once the details had been determined, she would be in a position to decide if any offences had been committed and if any charges would be laid.

If you witnessed the accident and can assist with the investigation, contact Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
