Jim Pearce let drunk unionists loose in parliament: LNP

THE Queensland Opposition has alleged a central Queensland Labor MP allowed drunken unionists to wander the grounds of parliament after a rally.

Kawana MP Jarrod Bleijie told the parliament he believed CFMEU officials visited a nearby pub after a union rally before going to parliament on Mirani MP Jim Pearce's invitation.

Hundreds of construction workers were involved in the rally in Brisbane on Wednesday.

Mr Bleijie said Mr Pearce left them unescorted inside parliamentary grounds.

"After the pub they came to parliament. They came here on the invitation of the member for Mirani, Jim Pearce, the sponsoring MP," Mr Bleijie said.

"CFMEU union officials were walking around here unassisted and unguided by a member of parliament.

"I am advised that some were so intoxicated they fell out of level three, they were kicked out of the Stranger's Dining Room after trying to force their way in and they were on the level 12 balcony without any member of parliament with them."

Parliamentary rules say guests cannot be left unescorted.

Mr Bleijie said he would be writing to the Speaker Peter Wellington regarding the potential breach.

Mr Pearce did not respond to APN Newsdesk's request for comment.
