TUESDAY: Making that recording in the first place may have violated state wiretap laws and put Kim and Kanye at risk of 3 years jail.
"Generally, what matters is the location of the person recording the call," said Marc Rotenberg, the executive director of the Electronic Privacy Information Center.
California, where the Kardashian-West clan lives and, TMZ reports, from where West called, is one of a handful of states that goes further than the federal wiretapping standard, which only requires one half of the conversation to approve of a recording.
Instead, the state requires everyone on a call to consent to a conversation being recorded, Rotenberg said.
MONDAY: THE Taylor Swift v Kim Kardashian/Kanye feud has exploded.
And it appears the blonde superstar may have been caught in a lie, after Kardashian's camp released a full video of their conversation on Snapchat today.
It includes a voice -- believed to be that of Swift -- saying she appreciated the Famous lyric (see below) and would admit that she was in on it when she walked the Grammy's red carpet. Instead, she used the acceptance speech to take a dig at West.
She has since said that while the phone call may have happened, she could not "approve" the song just because it was sang to her. She hadn't heard it in full, she says.
For those not keeping up, there has been some animousity between Kanye West and Taylor Swift ever since he crashed her award speech in 2009, announcing that he would let her finish... but that Beyonce had the greatest album of all time.
This year at the height of Swift's fame, Kanye released the track "Famous" which included these lines:
"To all my southside n****s, who know me best
"I think me and Taylor might still have sex. Why?
"I made that b**** famous."
When the track went public, the controversy came with it. Kanye attempted to defend himself publicly by saying that he gave Swift a preview of the song and had her approval.
The Swift camp denied this, saying the popstar was only asked to release the track via her Twitter account.
Then in her Grammy acceptance speech, which she gave a day after the track was released, she said:
"There are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments and fame.
"But if you just focus on the work and you don't let those people sidetrack you, someday, when you get where you're going, you'll look around and you'll know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there.
"And that will be the greatest feeling in the world."
Kanye again said she had heard the track as part of an "hour long convo about the line and she thought it was funny and gave her blessings".
Kim told an interview only this month that Swift was lying, that Kanye had done the right thing by her but that Swift turned on him. She also said there were recordings which showed all this.
After that, the Swift camp changed its tune somewhat:
Kanye West and Taylor only spoke once on the phone while she was on vacation with her family in January of 2016 and they have never spoken since.
Taylor has never denied that conversation took place.
It was on that phone call that Kanye West also asked her to release the song on her Twitter account, which she declined to do.Kanye West never told Taylor he was going to use the term 'that bitch' in referencing her.
A song cannot be approved if it was never heard. Kanye West never played the song for Taylor Swift. Taylor heard it for the first time when everyone else did and was humiliated.
Kim Kardashian's claim that Taylor and her team were aware of being recorded is not true, and Taylor cannot understand why Kanye West, and now Kim Kardashian, will not just leave her alone.
Noone was too sure who to believe, until today, when Kim uploaded video to her snap chat.
Now Swift can be heard saying that once she's on the Grammy red carpet, she's going to tell the world that she knew all about it. Check out the trancript below.
A transcript of the admittedly clunky and choppy conversation is below as chronicled by the Hip Hop Heads community on Reddit.
Kanye: Oh ok do, you still got- you still got the Nashville number?
Taylor: I do still have the Nashville area code but, I had to change it
Kanye: For all my south side n****s that know me best... I feel like me and Taylor, might still have sex
Taylor: I'm like, this close to over exposure
Kanye: Oh, well this one is uh, this is a really cool thing to have uhh
Taylor: I know! It's like a compliment kind of
Kanye: .. give a f*** about... is just you as a person and as a friend, I want things that you feel good, I don;'t wanna do rap that makes you feel bad
Taylor: Umm yeah I mean, go with whatever line you think is better. It's obviously very tongue in cheek either way
Taylor: I really appreciate you telling me about it! That's really nice.
Kanye: Uh, yeah I just feel like I had a responsibility to you as a friend, I mean
Kanye: I mean, thanks for being like so cool about it
Taylor: Aww thanks, I really appreciate it, like the heads up is, that is so nice
Taylor: Even asking or seeing if I'm being ok with it, I really appreciate, like I'd never had expected you to tell me about a line your song
Taylor: The flowers that you sent me! I like, instagrammed a picture of them and its the most instagram likes I've ever gotten like 2.7
Kanye: Relationships more important than punchlines, you know
Taylor: Yeah, I mean, I don't think anybody would listen to that and think "Oh that's a real bit, he must be crying"
Taylor: You gotta tell the story like the way it happened to you and the way you experienced it, like you honestly didn't know who I was before that
Taylor: It doesn't matter if I sold seven million off that album before you did that, which is what happened. You didn't know who I was before that, that's fine.
Taylor: And then you get (cant hear) that to make these things happen, and I have the idea to do it, and I create these things and concepts, it's like, I'm always gonna respect you
Taylor: And I'm really glad that, you had the respect to call me and tell me about the song and
Taylor: It's just like, it's just a really cool thing to do, and a really good show of friendship so thank you
Kanye: Thanks you too
Taylor: If people ask me about it, it would be great to tell, well he called me and told me before it came out, jokes on you guys, we're fine
Taylor: You guys wanna call this a feud, you wanna call this throwing shade, but I'm gonna be on the Grammy red carpet and theyre gonna ask me about it and I'm gonna be like, he called me
Taylor: (first half is very difficult to make out) "Yeah she does, it made her famous!" you know, it's more provocative to say, so have sex
Taylor: It's not, sighs it's not, it doesn't matter to me, there's not one line there that hurts my feelings
