LIKE your Korean cars cheap and compact? There's double good news for you this week.
For starters, Kia has confirmed its baby Picanto is Australia bound early next year, while Hyundai has launched a revised and cheaper Accent range starting at $14,990, down $2000 from before.
The pint-sized Picanto is already on sale in New Zealand, but is now set to join Rio, Cerato and Optima in the passenger car range available in Australia.
Kia said it expected the Picanto to arrive in a single specification: a five-door model with 1.2-litre engine mated to a four-speed automatic.
It also said an indicative price of $14,990 was likely: $1000 cheaper than the Rio three-door hatch and $2000 less than the Rio five-door hatch manuals.
The price would be two grand more than rival five-door Suzuki Celerio and Holden Barina Spark, or three grand more than cheapie Mitsubishi Mirage five-door hatch, although these are manual transmission prices.
The Picanto, as with all Kia vehicles, will benefit from the industry leading 7-year warranty, capped price servicing and roadside assist.
On the Hyundai front, the revised Accent range now replaces the outgoing Hyundai i20 model.
The entry-level sedan or hatchback Accent Active now starts at $14,990 before on-roads, and comes with a 74kW/133Nm 1.4-litre engine with six-speed manual or optional CVT with sequential manual mode ($2000 premium).
The revised and sportier 103kW/167Nm 1.6-litre Accent SR (hatchback only) comes with bespoke Australian tuning and is from $16,990 or $2000 more for the CVT auto.
All Accents have been given ANCAP 5-star ratings, feature six airbags, 5-inch touchscreens, Bluetooth and steering wheel audio controls, while SR models gain 16-inch alloys, fog lights, cruise control and roof mounted rear spoiler.
