Lions wait on knee scans for star midfielder

SCANS this week will reveal whether the season is over for star Brisbane Lions midfielder Dayne Beams.

The 26-year-old sat out most of the second half in Saturday night's embarrassing 78-point loss to Collingwood at the Gabba after copping a knock to his troublesome knee.

It was just the second game back this season for Beams who missed several games at the end of last season before having shoulder surgery. That was followed by a flare up of his knee tendinitis which saw him sit out the first six games of the 2016 season.

Lions chief executive Greg Swann told radio station 3AW the club would err on the side of caution with the joint club champion.

"We'll see what happens with it but if it's not right it might be a similar thing to Nat Fyfe where you just put him out and make sure we get him right," Swann said. "If it takes 10 weeks or the rest of the season, so be it."
