Man and woman seriously injured in carpark accident

A MAN in his eighties and an elderly woman have been seriously injured in a carpark accident.

Both were taken to Gympie Hospital with head and back injuries after a car the man was getting in began to reverse.

Queensland Ambulance said both patients were transported in a stable condition.

Police said the man still had one leg outside the vehicle when it started to go backwards.

"As it continued to reverse, the open passenger door struck a woman and knocked her to the ground before the man was also dragged down."

The incident is believed to have happened just outside the entry doors at the Gympie Mitre 10 store about 11.25am.

Police said the Forensic Crash Unit was investigating.
