Man dies after single-vehicle crash on Burnett Hwy

A MAN has died after the van he was driving collided with a tree on the Burnett Highway on Sunday afternoon.

Paramedics were called to the crash at Booubyjan, between Tansey and Ban Ban Springs, at 1.44pm on December 30, with reports of a mini van having run off the road and collided with a tree.

The male driver was in a critical condition with serious leg and facial injuries and the female passenger was in a serious but stable condition with shoulder and facial injuries.

A QFES spokeswoman said fire and rescue crews had to extricate the two patients as they were trapped in the vehicle.

The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was tasked to the incident, where they joined Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews and Queensland Ambulance Service officers.

The man, who was aged in his 60s, died at the scene.

The female passenger, also in her 60s, was airlifted to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
