Man plummets 10 metres in skydiving crash
A skydiver has been injured in a crash at Stumers Creek on Sunday afternoon with reports he plummeted 10 metres onto the beach north of Coolum.
Queensland Ambulance Service dispatched a Coolum unit to scene after receiving an emergency call at 2.58pm.
Eyewitness Cory Lavell was on the busy beach when the accident occurred.
"His parachute seemed to be open properly but he didn't land like they normally do," Mr Lavell said.
"He just went straight into the ground on his side and not on his feet.
"I'm actually surprised he is alive."
It is the second serious extreme sporting accident in a week, after a paraglider slammed into electricity wires at Sunrise Beach on Thursday causing power to go out in more than 2000 homes.
A QAS spokesperson said the person injured at Stumers Creek was a male of unknown age.
He was transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital with spinal injuries.
