Carjacking 'could have been catastrophic for unborn child'
UPDATE: Police believe they know the man responsible for brazen Lockyer Valley carjacking and have asked he turn himself in.
"We believe this man did commit other offences in the Lockyer Valley, earlier to this incident," Detective Acting Inspector Matt Howard said.
"We have been able to gather some evidence in relation to those matters and they will be linked to this crime."
Police alleged the man stole a car from a woman as she ducked into a shop, about 6am yesterday.
CCTV footage shows the woman entering a store in Glenore Grove as the alleged offender gets into her car, not knowing a child was in the back seat.
"She has returned to the vehicle to stop the male taking it and to tell him her three-year-old son was in the back," Insp Howard said.
"The male has driven away, and the mother sustained some injuries at this time.
"The vehicle is still outstanding, as is the offender."
Police allege the man drove about 100m before stopping to let the child out.
Insp Howard said the crime was serious and he will look to charge the man with robbery with violence, depravation of liberty, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and bodily harm.
"The lady was 31-weeks pregnant," he said.
"It could have been catastrophic for her and her unborn child."
The woman suffered minor cuts and bruising while her son was unharmed.
"The offender is known to police," Insp Howard said.
"I will make this plea to him, if would like to hand himself into a police station that would be appreciated.
"He did the right thing by stopping to let the child out, but he still stole the car and pushed the lady over.
"We believe he is in the Lockyer Valley or Ipswich areas."
Anyone with information about the crime should phone Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers if 1800 333 000.
EARLIER: Police are appealing for information following the robbery of a pregnant woman in the Lockyer Valley yesterday morning.
Around 6am the 31-year-old was attending a store at the corner of Brightview Road and Grove Street in Glenore Grove when a man has entered her white 2008 Hyundai i30, also containing a three-year-old boy.
As the man reversed the vehicle out of the car park, the woman has attempted to open the driver's side door and let him know her child was still in there.
The man then continued a short distance, before stopping briefly to remove the child from the car and was last seen driving east on Brightview Road.
The woman suffered minor injuries, while the toddler was not harmed.
Police wish to speak with the man pictured, who they believe will be able to assist with their inquiries.
He is described as caucasian, around 170cm tall, of a slim build, with brown hair and blue eyes.
Detectives from Gatton Criminal Investigation Branch are asking anyone with dashcam vision or information about the incident to contact them.
