‘If it makes Tomic happy, let him count his money’

MARK Philippoussis says Bernard Tomic should be given the space to decide what he wants in life - even if it is counting his money.

Philippoussis said the controversial Queenslander deserves the right to choose what he wants to do with a career now in free-fall.

"I don't know, I don't have much to do with Bernie. I haven't even had a proper conversation with the guy," Philippoussis said.

"You just want that person to be happy, no matter what it is.

"I just wish he finds his way to make him happy, whether it's not playing tennis or getting back to where he was or trying to get even better.

"Or, if he wants to count his money, if that makes him happy, let him count his money.

"It's his life. If he's happy, then everybody else should be happy."

The "count his money" reference stems from Tomic's post-match remarks after failing in Australian Open qualifying.

Tomic is increasingly linked to Network Ten's "I'm A Celebrity ... get me outta here!", which goes to air next week.

Philippoussis says former world No. 17 Tomic has the talent to succeed, but he needs to identify whether tennis remains his focus.

"He needs to find himself and to find that passion," Philippoussis said.

"That might not be tennis, it might be tennis but he's got to at least find something to get excited about.

"I wish him all the best and I hope he does find that."
