CELEBRITY chef Matt Golinski remains in a critical condition in a Brisbane hospital after yesterday's house fire that killed his wife and three children, as questions are raised about ambulance response times.

Authorities confirmed the first ambulance arrived half an hour after emergency services were alerted to the Sunshine Coast blaze and was carrying only one paramedic.

This meant a police officer at the scene had to drive the vehicle to the hospital while the paramedic attended to a badly burned Mr Golinski, who regularly appeared on Network Ten's Ready, Steady, Cook and ran a catering company.

Neighbours said yesterday they woke to the sound of screaming from the Golinski family home about 3.30am and ran out to Jacaranda Place in Tewantin, west of Noosa, to find a badly burned man lying on the driveway outside the home.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service alerted it to the blaze at 3.32am and the first ambulance arrived about half an hour later, at 3.59am.
