Monto 'kafe' owner needs to take a break
ON ANY given day, you might see four generations of the Pointon family buzzing about Kim's Kafe in Monto, but for matriarch Kim, it's time for her to take a step back.
She is looking for a new owner for the cafe she has owned for two-and-a-half years, as she feels she can no longer give the business her full attention.
"I don't want to sell it, I'd love to keep it,” Mrs Pointon said.
"But you have to give it 100 per cent.”
However, between her family, her health and her work at Abercorn State School, where she cleans and drives the school bus for 17 of the school's 18 students, something had to give.
"I would get here at 5am (to the cafe), leave at 7am for the school run, back at 9am, work until 2pm and then leave again,” she said.
"I don't get home until 6.30 or 7pm.”
Mrs Pointon said her favourite thing about her cafe had been getting to know people and hearing the interesting stories of travellers passing through.
It is clear Mrs Pointon still retains a deep love of her cafe, which she says was run down when she bought it.
"I hope I've brought it up to be a good little business,” she said.
