Monto prove to be hot competition
NETBALL: It was a hot day on the court with some hot competition when Monto, Mundubbera, Gayndah and Nanango netball teams faced off in Gayndah on Sunday.
Playing in the Central Burnett Netball Challenge, Coach Bec Evans' team of under-15s from Monto turned their fate around to win against Nanango 12-9.
"Nanango is kind of our nemesis team, they've beat us three times so that was our first win over them and the girls have improved so much,” Evans said.
"I'm really proud of their efforts and their win.”
The U15 team worked hard in their defence with their arms up on every ball.
"We were trying to get some intercepts or tips and really trying to work with our strong shooters,” Evans said.
"They lost against Nanango in their first game in the morning but they worked on all the things they do well and really improved for their second game against them.”
Evans said, across all teams, Monto played really well throughout the carnival.
"The juniors, 10s and 12s are mostly trying to get a grasp of the game so each game they get stronger,” she said.
"It's just little things you notice them pick up like passing or calling for the ball.”
Evans said netball teaches the kids skills that they can take and use in their everyday life.
"Definitely teamwork and giving 100 per cent all the time. It doesn't matter if you're winning or losing, just concentrate on the little things you do well.”
"If they've given me 100 per cent and we've lost I don't care, the important thing is that they are driving to be the best version of themselves.”
