Monto swim season's kicking off
SWIM season in Monto started back up last week, with the Monto Swim Club aiming to get young people involved in competitive and recreational activities.
Membership for the swim club has gone down this year so the committee is looking at ways to encourage more new members.
Club president Kylee Seeds said creating a positive environment for young swimmers was a high priority.
"We'll be handing out a lot more trophies and awards for the kids, which is something we haven't really done in the past years,” Ms Seeds said.
The Monto Swim Club activities are a continuation of learn2swim classes, intended for children who wish to go beyond the basics and progress their swimming in a safe but competitive environment.
There are also events for older participants, with aqua aerobics classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights from 6pm, and Active Seniors events on Tuesdays at 10.30am.
Tonianne Ward holds the lease of the pool and volunteers as a coach for the swimmers, both young and old.
"I do it because I enjoy seeing what the kids get out of it,” Ms Ward said.
"It's a great activity to be involved with for all ages, and it's good exercise.”
The swim club will be attending four competitive carnivals throughout the season, the first of which is the A-grade seven years and under 50m in Biloela on November 4 and 5.
The pool is open from 6-11am and 2-6pm Monday to Friday and 12-5pm on weekends.
