Monto truckie to shave beard for men’s health
IF YOU'VE ever seen Monto resident Gerry Morgan around town, you'd always see his iconic facial hair.
Growing his beard for more than 15 years, Mr Morgan has decided to shave it all off, for a good cause.
Each year Movember takes place to raise money and awareness about prostate cancer, testicular cancer, men's mental health, and suicide prevention.
Living in the Monto area for more than 30 years, Mr Morgan recently visited the Monto Grand Hotel where the idea was raised.
"I just went there on a Friday night and the girls down there told me what a good idea it'd be if I took part," Mr Morgan said.
He had originally shaved his beard to raise money for leukaemia in 2004.
But no one has seen him without his beard since.
"Movember is just a good cause and my beard will grow back in a month's time so I thought why not?"
The Monto Hospital and community will raise money for the Movember foundation by holding a live auction at the Grand Hotel on November 30.
Hoping to reach their target of $1700, Mr Morgan will shave his beard off on the night, with plenty of prizes to be given away to raise money for charity.
