Mundubbera hosts awesome foursomes
GOLF: A strong field turned out for the Mundubbera Golf Club's annual foursomes championship over the weekend.
Victorious in the Mens A Grade competition were brothers Jake and Bailey Kimber shooting 148/133.
Bailey would have been stiff after backing up from an impressive performance in the Mundubbera Tigers victory over rivals Gayndah on Saturday afternoon.
The Kimbers won both the gross and nett prizes and took out the Mens competition on the Saturday too, with a nett score of 65.
Stephen Zipf and Wally Benham were the B grade winners with scores of 174/143, and in the C Grade competition Alan Potter and Len Weier got the chocolates with a 191/143.
Lorraine Lindenmayer and Christine Vicary won the Ladies competition with 177/144.
Former club president and keen golfer Graham Carlyon said having the Kimber brothers around the club was keeping the older members honest.
"Bailey loves his sport and he's good at both golf and rugby league,” Mr Carlyon said.
"Those young blokes are two good golfers and they combine very well.
"They're good young fellas coming up and the older generation is losing its touch I'm afraid.”
Despite a recent dry spell, the course was in excellent condition on the weekend and bodes well for the club as they gear up for their next marquee event in three weeks time.
"The foursomes is one of our yearly championships and an important event on our club's calendar,” Mr Carlyon said.
"We were fortunate that we have had a good summer which has given us plenty of grass that we'll cover through the winter.”
The club hosts the Association Carnival on Sunday, May 20, and expect a big turnout with most of the region's major clubs represented.
