20 tips to adopt healthier habits day by day

WE ALL know that women have a million things to do. However there are numerous ways to encourage healthy habits that do not require someone to be so disciplined.

Even though healthy habits are difficult to maintain in our modern world, you can adopt a few at a time, or go all in and undertake them all right away.

1. Start fresh every day. Just because you yelled at the kids or had a fight with your partner yesterday and didn't resolve it, today is a new day. You need to use it to approach any issues with calm and fresh eyes.

2. Make your home a nice place. Big or small, every woman needs a sanctuary where she can rejuvenate and recharge. Bedrooms are great, but you can even use a nice chair in a corner.

3. Cut back on sugar. You do not have to quit eating donuts and caramel slice, but cutting back will help a lot.

4. Stop purchasing crap. Save up and buy quality clothing that will stand the test of time. Shoes that will last more than a few wears. Sheets that you enjoy sleeping under.

5. Avoid processed food. Eat loads of fresh or frozen vegetables. It doesn't take a lot of money to eat well.

6. Put down your phone at night. The world will not end if you fail to answer every ding your phone makes. Respond when it is a suitable time for you, not when everyone else wants you to (except at work…. there are limits.)

7. Try and give up smoking. It costs a lot, is bad for you and makes your breath smell disgusting.

8. Drink more water and less soft drink and coffee or replace them with green tea. It takes a bit of getting used to - but it's good for you.

9. Take any prescribed medicine religiously. Do not ever skip them.

10. Listen to your body, if you feel something is wrong, then something is wrong. Go with your gut and see someone about it.

11. Invest in yourself. Make time for personal development and educating yourself. No money? There are loads of free courses online or ask your local library.

12. Know how much you owe. Know how much is in your bank accounts. Take care of yourself financially. If it is out of control, go see a financial counsellor before it gets too far gone.

13. Make time for 30 minutes of exercise per day. Even if it is just walking around your own house. Look after your body.

14. Wash your hands regularly - germs on your hands are the leading cause of catching colds and flu.

15. If you hate your job, find something you love to do. If you don't have the experience or knowledge, set goals to get yourself there.

16. Learn to say "no".

17. Treat yourself kindly. Make a conscious effort to cut out bad self talk - and think of the good things about yourself.

18. Set aside quality time with your partner at least every week.

19. If you have children, invest in a good lock for your bedroom door.

20. Treat yourself every now and then, you deserve it.
