New liaison for domestic violence support
RESIDENTS of the North Burnett will soon have better access to domestic violence services with the appointment of a new support officer.
Former Monto police officer Ron Mientjes will act as a support officer in the region for domestic and family violence support organisation Edon Place.
"When I was with Queensland Police Service in Bundaberg, I established and ran a domestic violence unit, which I did for five years,” Mr Mientjes said.
"Part of that job involved liaising with stakeholders, so I did a lot of work with Edon Place.”
Mr Mientjes, based in Monto, will meet with women in Monto, Eidsvold, Mundubbera and Gayndah to help with the preparation of safety plans, risk assessments, referrals to local agencies when required, and assistance with applications for domestic violence prevention orders.
"Every person we deal with can be assured we'll deal with them confidentially,” Mr Mientjes said.
Edon Place also provides court support to men and women impacted by domestic and family violence.
Mr Mientjes has already dealt with some referrals, but doesn't expect to have set times worked out until around next month.
Women in the North Burnett can contact Edon Place on 41536820 between 8.30am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.
