Brown recruits Daley to mentor young Knights
BIG recruiting NRL strugglers Newcastle have enlisted former State of Origin coach Laurie Daley to mentor their playmakers including star import Mitchell Pearce.
Knights coach Nathan Brown and Daley have been in talks about a consultancy role with the club, which will lead to the champion pivot overseeing selected training sessions in the coming weeks, according to some media reports.
The appointment will be Daley's first since his replacement as NSW coach by Brad Fittler.
It is understood Daley's main focus will be tutoring Knights second receivers Connor Watson and Kalyn Ponga but the job will also reunite him with Pearce who played a number of Origin series under his tutelage with the Blues.
"I've spoken to Loz and he's very keen to come up and do a session or two and have a look," Brown said.
"What that involves, I don't know. Connor and Kalyn in particular are good running players and if Loz can offer them one or two good bits of advice, that will be really good for them.
"Hopefully we'll get him up in the next few weeks, get him to have a look at it."
