AN oil tanker has caught fire at the bottom of the Toowoomba Range, leaving a "large spill" on the Warrego Hwy.

The eastbound truck caught ablaze and was reported to authorities at about 6.11am.

The truck driver managed to extinguish the fire before emergency crews arrived at 6.23am.

A clean up crew is currently en route to deal with the oil spill.

A broken turbo line on the truck led to the spill.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services personnel checked for hot spots in the truck using a thermal imaging camera.

Local emergency service crews from Helidon are on scene awaiting for clean up crews to arrive.

The incident has been logged with the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
