O'Meara deal hinged on Lyons, Suns coach reveals
AFL: Jaeger O'Meara's 11th-hour move to Hawthorn would not have happened had Jarryd Lyons not been traded to the Gold Coast.
Suns coach Rodney Eade told SEN radio yesterday the club was ready to stick to its guns over the star midfielder's trade and would not have let the 22-year-old go without getting a senior player in return.
However, Eade said once Crows midfielder Lyons was traded for a third-round draft pick, they decided to accept Hawthorn's offer for O'Meara.
"As of Wednesday night, we weren't going to do it for 10 and 48,” Eade said.
"All along we said we wanted a player.
"We got that player in Jarryd Lyons, so we changed tack ourselves.”
The Suns were busy during the trade period getting Lyons, Pearce Hanley from the Brisbane Lions and Collingwood ruckman Jarrod Witts.
They will also have a big say in the national draft with four picks inside the top 10.
