Organic piggery moves to the North Burnett

ORGANIC piggery Backfatters has finished its move from North Queensland to the North Burnett.

Co-owner Julia Powell said the move to Degilbo went well.

"We had some guys from Kingaroy move all our pigs down,” Ms Powell said.

"It went all smoothly, we're just building more paddocks for them now.

"They're resting, doing what they do best in their new paddock, they've settled in really well.”

Ms Powell said the company moved south to expand its operations and because of better export opportunities being closer to a capital city.

She said transporting the animals from Ingham was one of the biggest challenges they faced in the move.

"Because of where we were, we didn't have any infrastructure to transport the pigs,” Ms Powell said.

"We had to get people from down here to drive up there, as its a different kettle of fish transporting free range pigs.

"The outdoor pigs find it funny with their feet and that.

"We did leave two ducks behind, though they are now living with the neighbours.

"We've got all the chickens, dogs, cats and lambs though.”

She said they were already enjoying their time in the North Burnett.

"We arrived just in time for the Rose Festival,” Ms Powell said.

"That was really fantastic.”
