Parents post online with bullying woes

A NUMBER of parents have recently taken to the Internet to vent their distress and anger over their children being victims to school yard bullying.

In the last two days two parents have posted on local sites, Rockhampton Classifieds and Rockhampton Qld Buy Swap and Sell, about two different cases of school yard bullying happening to their children.

One parent has asked for help in identifying her daughter's bully so she could take the matter to the school.

"I'm appealing to any parent to ask your children if they were witness to an assault today at school," the post read.

"My poor little grade seven daughter was targeted and punched in the head from behind by an older girl. The older girl slapped my daughter in the face, pulled her hair and then punched her in the back of the head.

"As you can imagine, she is now terrified to return to school."

Another parent went online to express her anger after her son was "punched in the head three times."

"My son has been so badly bullied and now he was punched in the head three times on Thursday," the post read.

"He has big lumps and had concussion and today got punched heaps of times in the back of the head.

"Shouldn't the school ring straight away and inform me he has had a punch to the head."

The Morning Bulletin contacted the Department of Education and Training yesterday to seek comment about the incidents.

A spokesperson said bullying was not tolerated in Queensland state schools.

"Any situation that threatens the safety and wellbeing of students and teachers is treated seriously and dealt with as a matter of urgent priority," the spokesperson said.

"Students and parents are strongly encouraged to report cases of bullying to their school principal."
