Person critical after shark attack on Great Barrier Reef

A man is being flown to Townsville Hospital in a critical condition after he was attacked by a shark on the central Great Barrier Reef.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the rescue helicopter and paramedics met the man at the Dungeness boat ramp where he was worked on before being airlifted in a critical condition.

The man was attacked at Britomart Reef at Lucinda, 120km north of Townsville and part of the central Great Barrier Reef.

He was bitten on the upper leg.

Britomart Reef is a popular spearfishing destination and was the location of the 2018 Queensland Spearfishing Titles.
