UPDATE DECEMBER 6: A BUNDAMBA man has been charged following the alleged assault of a child in North Ipswich on December 2.

Just after 5pm, a man approached a young child at a business on Downs St and allegedly assaulted them.

It is further alleged that the man then fled the area and the child wasn't physically injured as a result of the incident.

A 61-year-old Bundamba man has been charged with one count of indecent treatment of a child and is due to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court today.

UPDATE DECEMBER 5: POLICE are still looking for a man after a child was assaulted while shopping at North Ipswich on December 2.

Detectives are appealing to any members of the public who can help identify a man who may be able to assist police with their inquiries into the assault.

Police say at about 5.50pm on December 2 a man approached and assaulted a child inside a retail store on the corner of The Terrace and Downs St at North Ipswich.

A parent of the child confronted the man about his actions but the man ran off, police say.

The child was not physically injured during the incident.

Police say a man indecently treated the child but due to the nature of the alleged offence, the child's age and gender are unable to be released.

Police are appealing to any members of the public who are able to identify a man (pictured) or knows of his whereabouts to contact police as they believe the man may be able to assist with their inquiries.
