Police refute machete claims

GAYNDAH Police has refuted claims of a machete-wielding man on Warton St on Sunday night, saying initial allegations a weapon was produced were incorrect.

"There was nothing in it,” Sergeant Joshua Ryan, who answered the call-out, said.

He said reports a man was threatening another man with a machete were an "embellishment.”

"We ascertained quickly that no male was armed,” Sgt Ryan said.

"No weapons offence charges were laid.”

A 20-year-old male was, however, charged with driving without due care and attention and issued with an infringement notice.

This reckless driving appeared to be the cause of the confrontation which led to Gayndah Police being called.

Police seized unnamed items from a residence.
