Police waiting for results in Marilyn Wallman case

DETECTIVE Senior Constable Cindy Searle said they are still awaiting the results of an excavation at Mount Martin in the case of missing Mackay girl Marilyn Wallman.

"We don't know when to expect the results," she said after a national TV program featured the cold case on morning television.

Marilyn disappeared on her way to school in 1972. In 1974 a fragment of skull was found beside a communal dump on the Mirani-Mt Ossa Road; but it wasn't until 2015 that DNA testing confirmed it was Marilyn's.

This prompted a review of the case and earlier this year,  police took soil samples and interactively mapped the area where the skull was found.

Along with information about a Holden car seen in the area, police also called for information from anyone who had seen a Felicia watch Marilyn had been wearing, or had seen any other human remains around the time she went missing.

Detective Senior Constable Cindy Searle urges people to ring, no matter how insignificant they think something they saw or heard may be.

"A lot of people ring saying they don't want to waste our time. Every bit of information is useful. We'd prefer to be able to say something wasn't the case than not know at all," she said.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the car, watch, remains or anything else to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
