Man, 27, charged with murder of man in far north

CAIRNS detectives have charged a 27-year-old man following investigations into the death of a man at Parramatta Park on Saturday night.

Police will allege at around 9pm two men were involved in a physical altercation at a Grove Street residence when one of the men sustained a stab wound to the chest.

A 39-year-old Manunda man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A 27-year-old Parramatta Park man has been charged with one count of murder and is due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday, July 20.

Initial information suggests around 9pm two men were involved in a physical altercation at a Grove Street residence when one of the men sustained a stab wound to the chest.

The man, aged in his 30s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A 27-year-old man is currently assisting police with their inquiries.

A crime scene has been established at the premises as investigations continue.
