QUEENSLAND'S peak motoring body has urged the Federal Government to fund key projects in Brisbane, Ipswich, the Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba in next week's budget.

The RACQ said there had been too much talk about projects like the Cross River Rail, the Pacific Motorway upgrades and rail duplication on the Sunshine Coast.

RACQ Executive General Manager Advocacy Paul Turner said both Queensland and the Commonwealth had been "fiercely in agreement of the merits" of the second river crossing in Brisbane since 2008.

"We need commitments from both levels of government and we need it now to ensure we're building for the future of Brisbane."

Mr Turner said RACQ also wanted to see further commitments to key networks outside the Brisbane CBD.

"The ability to safely and efficiently move people and goods throughout our vast State is essential to driving productivity and growing the Queensland economy."

Mr Turner said RACQ would be looking for specific commitments to:

  • Pacific Motorway upgrades - expanding to eight lanes from the Gateway Motorway to Loganholme and to six lanes between Nerang and Tugun
  • Ipswich Motorway - upgrade to six lanes from Darra to Rocklea
  • Rail duplication on the Sunshine Coast - from Beerburrum to Nambour.

"Additionally it's important there's a continuation of funding for previous commitments including 80/20 funding of the Bruce Highway, Toowoomba Second Range Crossing, Warrego Highway and the Gateway Upgrade North," he said.

"Without the Federal Government's 80 percent contribution these projects simply wouldn't happen. The Bruce Highway is Australia's most dangerous transport link and the promised $6.7 billion commitment over 10 years will save lives."
