Rider’s helmet flew off during beach crash

UPDATE: A teenager is in hospital in a stable condition after a high speed beach crash south of Mackay.
The 19-year-old man had been riding at Cape Palmerston on Saturday when he hit a washout and lost control on the bike.
His helmet was flung off in the crash.

RACQ CQ Rescue, who were called to the incident about 88km south of Mackay, said he suffered serious internal injuries and possible fractures.
The rescue chopper was called in by Queensland Health about 12.15pm on Saturday and landed on a remote beach at low tide for the retrieval.
The on-board doctor and paramedic treated the teen for about 30 minutes on scene before he was flown to hospital.
He is in Mackay Base Hospital a stable condition.
EARLIER: A motorcyclist is in a serious condition with multiple injuries following a crash south of Mackay.
The rescue chopper is on the way.
Paramedics were called to Cape Palmerston National Park at 11.17am Saturday.
At this stage it is unknown what caused the crash.
A rider is being assessed and treated for head, chest, stomach and leg injuries.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman confirmed RACQ CQ Rescue had been called to help the seriously injured rider.
