Rugby League highlights from the weekend
RUGBY LEAGUE: It was a blockbuster weekend filled with the best football in Mundubbera and Biggenden.
The Gayndah Gladiators defeated Mundubbera Tigers 54-10 whilst the Biggenden Warriors proved victorious against the Eidsvold Eagles scoring 42-22.
After the first 40 minutes, the Gladiators were ahead 24-6, with a try right on half time. It was the first time the teams versed each other since the Citrus Cup and the stakes were high; producing some incredible game play.
There was also some heated moments when Luke Berthelsen and Troy Sawdy exchanged fists resulting in a 10 minute send off in the second half.
The Mundubbera Tigers Captain Cameron MacDonald said it was a disappointing game of football from his side.
"It was a poor effort on our behalf, definitely a wake up call we needed, all credit to Gayndah who played a great game,” MacDonald said.
"Some players didn't turn up tonight which was disappointing, I think it was a bit of everything, training, people not turning up ready to play, and silly errors.”
"We'll hit the drawing board again and obviously our defence needs massive improvement as we had 50 odd points put on us and ball control.”
In Biggenden, the warriors proved victorious with a 42-22 win against the Eagles in front of a home crowd.
Biggenden Warriors club president Justin Vicary was watching the game from the sidelines after an injury in last week's game sidelined him for at least eight weeks.
He said he was pleased with how his players performed.
"The boys stepped up tonight,” Vicary said.
"They still have a lot to learn after quite a few players dropped the ball, by dropping the ball it gave the opposition a chance to come back.”
