WATCH: Mercedes in the drink at Lake Alford Duckponds

A MAN'S visit through Gympie came to an abrupt end on Wednesday night when his car rolled into Lake Alford.

The man, who was travelling through Gympie on his way to Maryborough, pulled into the tourist spot and got out of his Mercedes when he felt sick.

A moment's neglect in failing to put the handbrake on, saw the car rolling free and lading, completely submerged in the lake around 7pm.

Tow truck operators, who were called to the scene about 7.10pm, had a cold task wading through the dark and murky water to connect a winch to retrieve the sinking vehicle.

The car was pulled from the water by just before 9pm.

Gympie ambulance and fire and rescue officers were on hand to assist the operation.

The man sustained no injuries.
