Saddle up for the rodeo
IT'S set to be a blockbuster weekend on Saturday, May 13 with the bulls, steers, poddy rides and the barrel race taking place in Mundubbera.
Make sure you come to the Mundubbera Show to see all the action unfold and to partake in one of the biggest events of the year.
Rodeo show organiser Dudley Pott said the event was one not to miss.
"Last year we had 13 open bull riders, this year we're hoping for a lot more and we're optimistic it will happen,” Mr Pott said.
"The rodeo starts on Saturday afternoon around 1pm and will involve the barrel race, junior barrel race, poddy ride for under-11 years, junior bull ride, rookie bull ride and the open bull ride.
"The winner of the open bull ride will win $1500.”
The rodeo normally lasts two-and-a-half hours and everyone is encouraged to check it out.
"Bull-riding for those who may not know is a challenge, you've got to put them through the chute, then you put one rope around them and hold on tight for at least eight seconds,” Mr Pott said.
"If you can hold on tight for eight seconds you accrue a good score, it's not as easy as it sounds but it's a lot of fun.”
The Mundubbera Show Society would like to kindly thank the local stock contractors Brian and Kerry King for donating the bulls for the day.
Anyone interested in taking part at the rodeo has to pay their nomination fees by Friday, May 5 at 3pm.
"Anyone can participate at the event, the more the merrier,” Mr Pott said.
"The show is going to be incredible, I'd encourage everyone to go and see it for yourself.”
The Mundubbera Show Society would like to thank all of its sponsors.
