OKAY, ladies, we all ab-solutely know why we are here.
It's not for the hard-hitting storyline, or the special effects. It's for the boys - the Kings of Tampa.
I never thought I'd say this, but storylines got in the way of a good film this time.
Magic Mike XXL is the unnecessary sequel to Magic Mike. Turns out the original was just foreplay that led nowhere with a dull sequel. What a letdown.
Three years have gone by since Mike (Channing Tatum) left his life as a stripper to run his own furniture business. He reunites with the rest of his stripper crew with promises of a fantastic comeback for one last performance together at the Strippers' Convention in Myrtle Beach.
Matthew McConaughey's sleazy MC character Dallas is nowhere in sight (no great loss there) but Channing is still at the forefront of the ragtag group of strippers. The rest of the story plays out like a classic roadtrip with speed bumps - and grinds - along the way.
The crew which includes Joe Manganiello's Big Dick Richie, Kevin Nash's Tarzan, Matt Bomer's Ken and Adam Rodriguez's Tito are given a paper-thin storyline.
Ken wants to sing. Tito wants to operate a frozen yogurt business.
Riveting stuff. Mike is determined to go out with a bang and convinces the boys they should come up with fresh moves.
There's cheesy storylines about bros coming together, rekindling old flames, finding their true selves blah, blah, blah. It's half an hour in and I'm still waiting for Channing Tatum to take his clothes off. Why on Earth spoil his floor time with meaningless storylines?
When the boys eventually arrive at the convention, they do not disappoint.
The choreography is next level. Forget floor humping to Pony. It's almost acrobatic the way Mike spins the ladies around.
He is showered in $1 bills as the crowd of women go wild.
I never went into Magic Mike XXL expecting Oscar-winning stuff, but when the premise of the film is hot guys strutting their stuff and even that is not delivered, I'm left hanging.
