Serial offender Shane Roy Griffiths back in court

GLENELLA man Shane Roy Griffiths has six drink-driving, one dangerous driving and four disqualified driving convictions in his history.

In 2011 he was imprisoned and served actual time for his bad driving behaviour.

On June 18, 2013, the 36-year-old was disqualified from driving by a court order for three years.

When he was intercepted by police about 2.40pm on September 28 this year on the Fitzroy Development Rd he told officers he didn't have a licence and that it had been disqualified.

Griffiths also faced a drug offending charge in the Mackay Magistrates Court.

On September 3 police had been patrolling Field St when officers saw Griffiths exit "a known drug spot", the court was told.

Police were alerted to Griffiths' suspicious behaviour. He kept looking around, then he entered a vehicle and exited it before looking around again.

Prosecutor Sheena Hayes told the court it appeared as though he was looking to see if police were still there.

Griffiths then re-entered the vehicle and drove off, Ms Hayes said.

He was intercepted by police and admitted there was marijuana in the vehicle, she said.

Officers found 2.6grams of the dangerous drug and a makeshift bong from a drink can.

Griffiths pleaded guilty to the two charges.

Defence solicitor David Strutynski, of Strutynski Law said his client knew he faced a jail sentence but he submitted immediate parole was an option.

Magistrate Damien Dwyer went through the man's history, which included six drink-driving, one dangerous driving and four disqualified driving matters.

"Do you want me to adjourn this to next year for sentence?" Mr Dwyer asked.

Mr Strutynski said yes.

The matter was adjourned to January 21, before Mr Dwyer, for sentence.
