Severe weather warning for the Burnett

A SEVERE thunderstorm warning has been issued for destructive winds and large hailstones.

This warning has been issued for people in Wide Bay and Burnett and parts of Central Highlands and Coalfields, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Southeast Coast Forecast Districts.

Issued at 12:54 pm Thursday, 11 October 2018.

Weather Situation: A very dangerous thunderstorm northeast of Kingaroy is expected to continue its northeast track towards Gympie.

Another developing thunderstorm northeast of Chinchilla is also expected to intensify further as it moves towards Cherboug and Gayndah.

Very large hail is expected within the core of these cells.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones over the next several hours in the Wide Bay and Burnett and parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Southeast Coast districts.

Locations which may be affected include Dalby, Maroochydore, Kingaroy, Noosa Heads, Hervey Bay, Cherbourg, Nanango and Rainbow Beach.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce destructive winds and very large hailstones over the next several hours in parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Southeast Coast districts.

Locations which may be affected include Gympie, Cherbourg, Gayndah, Maryborough, Nanango, Rainbow Beach, Tiaro and areas northeast of Chinchilla.

Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Maranoa and Warrego district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.

Tennis ball size hail (up to 7cm) was reported at Kumbia around midday.

The next warning is due to be issued by 3:55 pm.
