Small northern NSW town set for Daft Punk album release

THE kids are zipping down the main street in robot helmets, the bakery is prepping for an all-nighter, and the local agricultural show organisers have scored a coup that just might overshadow the dog jump.

Wee Waa, population 2000, is counting down the hours before it hosts the much-hyped global album launch of French electro pop act Daft Punk.

Four thousand local and international fans will descend on the tiny cotton farming town in northern NSW to watch Random Access Memories stream live on Friday at the Wee Waa Agricultural Show.

Tickets sold out in 13 minutes even though the pop duo is not expected to appear in person.

Local photographer Shanna Whan said locals have taken to donning the iconic Daft Punk robot helmets around town, and models in the annual Wee Waa Mother's Day Fashion Parade busted out a dance number to a Random Access Memories track.
