AUSTRALIA has to beat Bangladesh handsomely on Monday to stay in the Champions Trophy hunt after Friday's wash-out with New Zealand.

Steve Smith is treating the game at The Oval as a final.

The rain saved his team against New Zealand after a poor bowling effort and a batting collapse.

The Aussies were 3-53 when rain ended play, chasing a reduced target of 235.

If the No.6-ranked Bangladesh wins, Australia will need to beat England in its final group match and hope other results go its way to progress to the semi-finals.

"For us now it's just about making sure that we're playing each game like a final and winning the next two," Smith said.

"It's a pretty quick tournament, so you can't really afford too many, well, a washout, really, or a loss.

"Obviously we've got to win the next game and probably quite well as well."

Bangladesh showed their batting strength by posting 6-305 against England with opener Tamim Iqbal scoring a century in a 166-run third-wicket partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim.

However, the pair's dismissal in successive balls led to the side surrendering a position of real strength to score 6-305 - a total that was chased down by the hosts with 16 balls to spare.

The make-up of the Australian side could change with The Oval pitch not helpful to bowlers.

Mitchell Starc or Pat Cummins could missed out after struggling against New Zealand, with all-rounder Marcus Stoinis a likely replacement.

Big-hitting Chris Lynn also comes into the equation.
