Socceroos a blueprint for Olyroos’ success
OLYROOSS coach Aurelio Vidmar says
following the blueprint that saw the Socceroos win the Asian Cup in January can lead his team to the ultimate success in next January's AFC U23 Championship in Qatar.
The tournament will serve as a qualifier for the 2016 Olympics in Rio, with the top three teams packing their bags for Brazil.
Australia earned its place by topping Group F in this week's qualifying tournament in Taiwan, beating Hong Kong 6-0, the hosts 4-0 and Myanmar 5-1.
It will be joined at the U23 championship by nine other group winners, the five best second-placed teams, and hosts Qatar.
Vidmar said he was pleased with the results, but just as thrilled with the way his players bought in to the senior national team's blueprint for success.
"We played some good football and controlled all three matches. But the way they bought into what we are trying to achieve across all the national teams was outstanding," he said.
"We created an identical structure and atmosphere to what has been successful for the Socceroos."
Andrew Hoole scored a hat-trick in the win over Myanmar, while Connor Pain (two) and Adam Taggart also scored during the tournament.
