Steroids seized in Toowoomba city raids

TOOWOOMBA Tactical Crime officers have seized more than $7500 worth of steroids after targeted raids across the city today.

Officers seized 55 vials of the liquid drug and capsules and charged a 33-year-old woman with drug supply and possession after raids of a CBD fitness centre, a Middle Ridge home and a property in the Lockyer Valley.

TCS Officer-in-Charge Senior Sergeant Scott Stahlhut said the bust was part of an ongoing police operation into steroid use in the city's fitness industry.

"This operation was in relation to the supply and possession of dangerous drugs, specifically performance enhancing drugs, also known as steroids," he said.

"Officers located approximately 55 vials of what police will allege are anabolic steroids.

"It's hard to determine the street value as they haven't been tested yet but based on anecdotal information, we're looking at about $7500."

He said the woman was linked to the three properties and is due to appear in court next month on drug possession and supply charges.

Snr Sgt Stahlhut said steroid use appeared to be on the rise in the Darling Downs region.

"Steroids seem to be creeping into the fitness industry particularly and demand seems to be on the increase," he said.

Anabolic steroids are a Schedule 1 drug in the same class as cocaine and amphetamines.
