Still room for improvement says Chelsea boss

FOOTBALL: Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has played down his team's chances of winning the English Premier League after a 2-0 win over Southampton moved the Blues just one point off the top of the ladder.

This time last season, Chelsea was 10 points worse off than it is now with the form of Eden Hazard and Diego Costa being questioned before Jose Mourinho was sacked.

This campaign, Hazard and Costa are both among the goals, with both scoring in this success on the road to move Chelsea to 22 points and fourth spot behind Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool.

Conte was full of praise for the duo and fellow striker Pedro but said there was a long way to go before his team was considered a title chance.

"I'm very happy after this performance,” the Italian said.

"I saw great commitment, work rate -with the ball and without it.

"For the fourth game we keep a clean sheet, it's fantastic.

"It's early for us to speak about title contenders. We have to work very hard to continue. We can improve a lot. We must improve.”

Everton remained in sixth after ending a run of five matches without a win with a 2-0 home success over struggling West Ham.

Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley scored the goals in a scrappy game.
