Strong Charbray market promising for Burnett beef

BRAD and Donna McInally of Monto Cattle & Country were celebrating after a long, successful day at the yards last week for the Charbray Feature Show Sale.

The yearly event incorporates judging, with sponsored prizes awarded for different categories of both male and female charbray cattle.

A proportion of the proceeds from sales commissions and donations goes to support the Charbray Society with their ongoing costs in promoting the breed.

It was a tiring day for staff at the saleyards, with a total yarding of 1620 - 620 of those sold being charbray cattle.

Mr McInally was pleasantly surprised at the strength of the market which he said is a testament to the North Burnett's cattle industry.

"Numbers-wise that's one of the biggest yardings we've had in Monto,” Mr McInally said.

"It was certainly a long day out at the yards for us.

"The market was very strong with good buyer support from right throughout central Queensland.

"All the regular feed lotters and everyone from the meat works were there participating.

"It was a good result.”

Family-owned Monto Cattle & Country runs fat and store sales, along with a number of feature prime and store cattle sales throughout the year.

Mr McInally said saleyards complex is integral to the rural economy and helps to put the North Burnett on the map in the beef industry.

"The yards are a big thing for the community,” he said.

"It's great that people can sell cattle every fortnight and it supports a lot of staff.

"There are people travelling a long way to buy and it's a good wrap on our cattle in Monto and the North Burnett.”
