Tackling child predators in Queensland

MEMBER for Keppel Brittany Lauga has welcomed a new partnership between the Queensland Police Service and the Australian Federal Police to combat the sexual exploitation of children.

Mrs Lauga said a newly-formed joint taskforce would strengthen and support the hard work of Queensland's dedicated police officers in bringing child sex offenders to justice.

The Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team would see the combined resources of child protection federal agents with officers of Queensland's Taskforce Argos embedded in a Child Safety and Sexual Crime Group.

"It's about combining police intelligence and strengthening communication between agencies so that law enforcement agencies have the resources to respond faster to combat these horrific cases of child abuse."

"The Palaszczuk Government is committed to keeping Queensland children safe and we strongly support the work of our police in protecting young Queenslanders," she said.

Queensland's Taskforce Argos detectives are internationally recognised for the exceptional work they do to protect children online.

"The new joint taskforce means that state and federal agencies will have more resources to target, apprehend and prosecute child sex offenders.

Mrs Lauga said the exploitation of children would be vigorously pursued by the joint taskforce and would be a significant line of defence against those who seek to prey on children and commit atrocious crimes.

"We're sending a clear message to sexual predators in Queensland that their activities will not be tolerated and will not go unpunished by the authorities.

Queensland's Child Safety and Sexual Crime Group, including Taskforce Argos and Child Protection and Investigation Unit officers across the state have for a number of years, worked successfully alongside federal and international law enforcement agencies.

"This new partnership will strengthen what our police are already doing to combat these abhorrent crimes and keep young Queenslanders safe," said Mrs Lauga.
