Tansey team squashes contenders at Road Kill Day
A "BEAST” was killed by the side of the road one Sunday morning as enthusiastic bowls players made their way to Eidsvold Bowls Club.
At the time their bowls day was without a name after losing its major sponsor, thus Road Kill Day was born.
"Trays of meat are prizes plus steak for lunch,” Eidsvold Bowls Club's Jean Wedemeyer said.
"You can conjure dead roos in the mind.”
A team from Tansey took home the tender tea after being named the winners of the most recent Road Kill Day, held last week.
The event had been postponed after the scheduled date in 2018 was awash.
Tansey's Alex Barsby, Rainer Marschall, Alf Edwards and Brian Dobie out-bowled their 52 fellow contenders.
"Players came from as far afield as Taroom, Theodore, Biggenden, Tansey, Monto, Binjour, Gayndah and nearby areas,” Wedemeyer said.
"The weather was relatively hot but the 56 players enjoyed the social and sports aspects of the day.”
Sponsors for the day were Shepherdson and Boyd.
Second place went to a team from Taroom: David Rose, G and Marg McAdam and Val Bradshaw.
The tailender's team consisted of Aston Wengel, Lyn Tucker, Dave Johnson and Lindsay Payne.
