TELSTRA RETURNS: 500,000 mobiles affected by outage

MORE than 500,000 mobile users were today unable to make or receive telephone calls after Telstra's network went down.

Telstra first confirmed there were problems with its network -- the third since the start of February -- at roughly 11am.

The network issue was "resolved" by midday.

The impact affected 3% of Telstra's 16.9 million mobile phone users, or about 506,000 people.

According to Telstra, those in Victoria and Tasmania suffered the worst of the problem, though other states suffered "intermittent issues".


TELSTRA OUTAGE: Calls on mobiles, landlines affected

TELSTRA has confirmed that customers are having their landlines and mobile telephone calls drop out, as the country's largest telecommunications firm is hit by another outage.

Users on Queensland's Sunshine Coast have confirmed they have been affected by the network failure.

One reader wrote their access was "definitely down".

Another said they could not make or get incoming calls but could access the internet.


In Toowoomba, others have said they weren't able to make calls but some were able to send text messages.

It is unclear how users in New South Wales are affected.

According to Telstra the problems are "predominately in Victoria and Australia, but impacting other states sporadically".

A Telstra spokesman said the issue was "resolved" but is yet to elaborate on the details of the outage.



TELSTRA DOWN? Networks may be down for a third time

THIRD time's the charm, huh Telstra?

Telstra is warning that its network may have failed once again -- the third time in the first four months of 2016.

A Telstra spokesman said: ""We've received reports from some customers facing difficulties making voice calls on our fixed and mobile networks. We're investigating as a priority."

The most recent Telstrafailure was less than a week ago when an estimated 8 million customers were cut off from the digital world.

Amid the storm of criticism, Telstra CEO Andrew Penn apologised and offered customers a "free data day" for April 3.

He said:

"You expect seamless mobile service with Telstra and it is our responsibility to ensure that is delivered day in, day out."

Even that was deja-vu for loyal Telstra customers who were told something similar in February, when Telstra again left customers stranded.

That outage on February 9 affected 800,000 people and was caused by an "embarrassing human error".

Chief operations officer Kate McKenzie said after that outage Telstra was "incredibly disappointed the outage occurred and deeply sorry for the inconvenience we caused".

There is no word yet on the nature of the current outage or how many are affected.
