The moments that mattered in Super Netball's decider

THE Sunshine Coast was pushed by the Giants early in their Super Netball decider at Brisbane Entertainment Centre but ultimately claimed a comprehensive victory.

Here's a look at some of the highlights.

First quarter

Giants win the toss and captain Jo Harten elects to take centre pass

Goal shooter Kristina Brice opens the scoring for the Giants and they embark on a 7-2 run to start the game, including five straight goals. It would be the side's biggest lead in the match.

Lightning goalkeeper Geva Mentor inspires her team's fightback and it trails 15-13 at the break.

Second quarter

The Lightning takes an early lead and goal defence Karla Mostert exerts her influence on the game by stifling the Giants attack.

Midcourter Kelsey Browne reels in a stray pass from the Giants to stretch her team's lead to 30-26.

Sunshine Coast centre Laura Scherian displays determination to keep the ball in play, despite falling over the sideline.

Lightning goal attack Stephanie Wood nabs a goal on the half-time buzzer and she roars in delight, with her team 32-27 ahead.

Third quarter

The Giants make positional chances with Brice replaced by Susan Pettitt but it doesn't halt the Lightning.

When opposing captains Mentor and Jo Harten go for the ball, the latter knocks it out and it signals the start of the end for her side.

The Lightning enjoys a five-goal run and it led 48-38 at the last break.

Fourth quarter

Midcourter Laura Langman snatches a ball to start the quarter and the Lightning never looked back.

The host sweeps to a 19-goal lead before settling for a 65-48 result.

Mostert is recognised as the most valuable player in the grand final.
