Monto goes baa-baa over goats

KAROB Bootieful is a beautiful goat.

She was the top winner for Monto breeders Karen and Rob Staines at the Central Queensland Dairy Goat Branch Show in Monto, taking out the prestigious Supreme Exhibit category.

Her other titles from the Monto event included Champion Saanen Doe, Champion Senior Doe All Breeds and Grand Champion Doe.

Mrs Staines said this was the peak of Karob Bootieful's showing career and the Saanen goat had a happy future ahead.

"This is her first supreme," Mrs Staines said

"We've had others that have won supreme as well, so they're taking turns.

"I'd hope to continue to get does out of her to continue her bloodline coming through."

Dairy Goat Society judge John Falkhagen came from South Australia for Queensland's second biggest annual goat show, and said Karob Bootieful ticked all the boxes.

"They're dairy goats so she was extremely dairy, the udder milked out very well in the udder class, so she had all the attributes to be a terrific doe," he said.

"I'd take her home and put her into my herd any day."

Goat breeding runs in the Staines family, and their daughter Hannah dominated as well.

The 16-year-old received blue ribbons for her British Alpine goats. But just being around the goats is a highlight.

"You get to play with the little babies and go to different shows with them," she said.

Though the little ones may be cute, they were a challenge.

"They're usually a bit fidgety because they haven't been shown before and they're only babies," she said.

Dubbed the future in goat breeding for the North Burnett, Hannah said she did not feel the pressure.

"I know I'll be in the goats for a fair while to try and improve my own stocks."
