Time on parole for 23 criminal charges

BETWEEN April and July this year, Ricky Lee Hoy went on a crime spree including obstructing and assaulting police officers, stealing a bicycle and attacking a security guard.

After four months of law-breaking, Hoy, 32, will spend no more time behind bars.

The man pleaded guilty to 23 charges in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court yesterday, appearing in custody wearing a correctional centre tracksuit and thongs.

His long list of charges included almost 10 counts of obstructing police, five counts of breaching bail and assault occasioning in bodily harm after attacking the security guard.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Donna Sperling said the list started with a public nuisance charge in early April, and finished with the assault of a police officer on July 10.

While facing the long list of charges, Hoy spent almost two months in pre-sentence custody, for matters before Maryborough court.

Hoy's defence lawyer John Milburn said his client was now making changes to his life, to improve his ways.

"Mr Hoy expresses his remorse to the court and victims, including the security guard," Mr Milburn said.

Mr Milburn said his client had personally apologised to the security guard he had assaulted.

Magistrate Graeme Tatnell said he hoped never to see Hoy in his courtroom again.

Hoy was sentenced to six months on parole, with 60 hours of unpaid community service.
