Truck along to Mt Perry

THE Mt Perry Family Fun Day is coming up and the famous truck pull is scheduled to take place once again on September 5.

The winners of the event will be awarded $1000.

Jo Cooper, of Evolution Mining, will be on hand at the event.

"We have a couple of teams already registered," Mrs Cooper said

"We find that usually we have teams registering on the day."

Teams can be mixed gender and they will compete to find the fastest team to pull the 90 tonne mining dump truck for 10m in the main street of Mt Perry.

Primary school teams are also encouraged to compete and see who can pull a fire truck fastest across 10m.

The primary source of funding for the Mt Perry Family Fun Day is from Evolution Mining, which is committed to giving back to the community.

This event has been the major fundraiser providing programs in the region aimed at helping at-risk youths.

Second prize is $750 while third prize is $500.

The primary school teams compete for a first prize of $1000, a second prize of $500 and third prize of $250.

Primary school teams will be made up of 12 members, with all members having to be enrolled in a primary school.

Adult and high school teams must have 14 members, with all teams being mixed gender.

For safety purposes, all teams must wear enclosed shoes and sign a release, waiver and indemnity form.

Heats for the event will start at 10am on Saturday, September 5, with team captains required to sign in between 8am and 10am the same day.

The event makes for quite the spectacle and is worth the drive just to witness.

"This is the 10th year for the truck pull," Mrs Cooper said.

Food and beverages will be available at the Mt Perry Hotel, which is directly beside the truck pull, with a bistro and bar open all day for the event.

The Federal Inn will also be open from breakfast and has a fine menu to choose from, with a beautiful outdoor seating area for meals and drinks.

If you prefer a picnic or barbecue, the Mt Perry Park is all you need. It is situated next to the event and has a large grassed area and a skate park for the children.
