Two dead after horror Sydney smash
TWO people have died after a stolen ute crashed into their sedan at an intersection in Sydney's inner west this morning.
The ute had earlier been in a pursuit with police which had been terminated.
About 4.30am emergency services responded to the corner of Canal Rd and Princes Hwy, St Peters, after reports of a two car collision.
Upon arrival, police found a grey ute had crunched into the side a blue sedan.
One person died at the scene while another has been taken to hospital in a critical condition but died shortly after.
Another man in his 30s, understood to be the driver of the ute, suffered a leg injury and has been taken into custody by police.
Police are investigating whether the ute was stolen earlier in the night.
A large police presence is currently on the scene including the dogs squad.
The Princes Highway is blocked northbound while two southbound lanes are also blocked.
Northbound traffic is being locally diverted into Canal Rd, Burrows Rd, Huntley St and Sydney Park Rd to return to the Princes Highway.
Motorists are advised to avoid northbound travel on the Princes Highway through St Peters.
It is expected that the road will be closed for some time.
